Sound bites from Los Junior Star - Tumbando Caña

I’ve been asked from several people to put up clips of more songs from the really fantastic album of Los Junior Star called Tumbando Caña. Of the ten songs, eight are pure bliss salsatunes. Here is one of the best campaneros I’ve ever heard. So strong and tight! Here are some excerpts from each of the salsatunes. These are taken from my own copy of this album on the Palacio label from Venezuela, the previous clips were from a preview of the album. They are short and low bitrate to allow for a quick listen by anyone. The original albums sound soo big and strong, believe me!

Disfrutalo!!

  • Tumba La Cana Jibarito - blissful voice and sweet piano on this slammer!
  • El Lleva y Trae
  • No Tiene Na - probably the grooviest track on this one. Love them breaks and trademark double campana. Que saborrr!
  • No Se Lo Digas a Papa
  • Por Mentirosa - This is a great version, but I think the version of this song that Mike “HDZ” Hernandez does on his totally legendary “A Lot of Latin Music” is possibly even better. Originally written by Chivirico Davila.
  • Ritmo Bembe - another favorite and one I play a lot. Much better than the Orlando Marin version, and what a killer break!! Osst! Sangre!
  • Jazzy - the most slamming track and best version of Jazzy we’ve heard. Those campanas really cause the whole room to boom! a highlight track for sure
  • Yo Lo Se Todo - another groover with killer breaks and sweet tempo. Para bailar y gozar!!

Yours truly,
- Guachi

Wicked Venezuelans

Los Junior Stars - Tumbando Cana thumbnailA monster of a release! From Venezuela comes Los Junior Star and their album titled Tumbando Cana on the Palacio label. Amazing all the way, including an absolutely stonking version of “Jazzy” as originally written and performed by Willie Colon. This version is at least as good as Willie’s version but has a flavor of its own in those kickin’ campanas!
When Jazzy, my good friend and fabulous dancer heard this version he immediately bursted out “This is the BEST version of Jazzy ever!”.
The album is full of great tracks, in fact I love all the eight salsa tracks on this album. They are all definitely playtracks and that says something since tracks really do need something special to make my playlists.

One standout for me is “No Tiene Na” which is a bluesy guaguanco with a swing and groove like no other… Have a go and listen to the clip! Another slow burning groover is the cover of “Ritmo Bembe” also recorded by Orlando Marin.

“!Chevere!” from The Superstar’s is another album from the same group. Yes, this really is Los Juniors as well! (reference buscasalsa.com). This has been released numerous times in different south american countries but they are all pretty rare to come across on original vinyl. This edition is the peruvian release on the FTA label.

Los Juniors or Los Superstars?I was lucky to find this in near mint condition, possibly unplayed!

Anyway, this is a superb album with swingin’ guaguancos all the way. Great tunes such as “Che Jose” and “Guaguanco Manny” (from Manny Corchado), “Con La Misma Moneda” from Chivirico Davila etc. All tracks are swinging and great!
